Morizon and Kokos.pl — a conversation instead of an interrogation in financial products

Two financial projects in which I reversed the order: the user's goal first, their data second, and a conversation instead of a form.

Kokos.pl: loans without an interrogation

Kokos.pl is a peer-to-peer lending platform with two main paths: taking out a loan and investing. Users said both were too complicated. The platform wanted to collect customer data as early as possible, before the person had even decided whether to sign up.

As part of the agency team, I persuaded the client to reorder the tasks around the user's goals: getting a loan or investing. The new flow let people enter an amount and a few parameters and see offers straight away. Registration stopped being an entry condition and became a means to an end. I was responsible for the process model, concept sketches and prototype validation.

Morizon: a mortgage adviser as a conversation

The question was: what if we replaced the financial interrogation with a conversation? The loan application was led by an adviser who opened with a question about the user's plans instead of form fields. I was responsible for the loan application flows and prototypes of new landing pages.

The shared thesis

Procedural language and an order of steps convenient for the institution put people off decisions they want to make anyway. In both projects, the order that matched the user's goal won. It is the same thread as in ING Allow Me.

Why it matters for AI

It is an early example of thinking about conversation as an interface in finance, several years before language models made it the standard. To be clear: Morizon was a designed conversational flow, not an AI system.

Context

Both projects were done when I worked as a freelancer, roughly between 2012 and 2020. On Kokos.pl I worked as part of an agency team. Both solutions went into production and worked for the clients; I do not know for how long.
